Mermaids Reveal Christmas Ball 2018 Theme

It’s only November, but Christmas spirit is already rife in St Andrews, especially when it comes to one of the main events of the holiday season: The Christmas Ball. Mermaids held a theme launch party for the ball this past weekend and if the party is any indication, this year’s ball is going to be magical. Or should I say wonderful?
The theme this year is “Through the Looking Glass,” a nod to Lewis Carroll’s classic novel, ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’. For the launch party, Beacon Bar was given a Wonderland twist, with large playing cards pasted on the windows and walls and even some Wonderland themed cocktails available, including the “Cheery Cheshire.” The effect was a fun and whimsical night that left me excited to see how the ball itself would play out this theme. Luckily, I got the chance to ask Ed Prendergast, this year’s ball coordinator, a few questions.
The first question I asked was about how the theme was chosen. With such a popular event, there is bound to be pressure to make it live up to – and hopefully exceed – expectations. Ed agreed:
“Deciding on a unique theme for Christmas Ball is always going to be a challenge. I wanted to choose a theme that was both able to have incredible visuals whilst also being something different from what Christmas Ball usually does. For me, ‘Through the Looking Glass’ was the perfect choice!”
The theme really does offer endless possibilities. From the Mad Hatter to the White Rabbit, there are so many elements of the book that can be explored. When talking about the ball’s décor, Ed said to expect to see a lot of the book represented:
“This year the décor has a very enchanting and eclectic feel. Each area of Kinkell centres around a different aspect of the book meaning there is so much scope for eye catching and alluring decorations. There is lots of room for both large set pieces and small intricate details meaning there is plenty to be seen!”
As for what he’s most excited about at the ball, Wonderland is still front and centre:
“The theme! The variety which the theme offers is very exciting for the creative team and the slightly mad aspects of the book allow for rather quirky decorations that have not been seen before at previous balls.”
With such a sprawling, well known theme, there is so much for the ball committee to work with, and that is cause for a lot of anticipation, both on their end, and for the rest of us, who are patiently awaiting the big night.
The last question I asked Ed was a simple one: what three words would you use to describe the ball? His answer? “Whimsical, enchanting, and unexpected,” which sounds like the makings of an amazing night. And I know I can’t wait to go down the rabbit hole on December 2nd.
The Mermaids Christmas Ball will take place on Sunday 2nd December at Kinkell Byre from 19:30. Keep a close eye on their Facebook Page regarding ticket sales.

Hi all, got scammed by this website. Saw that there were a couple of post informing about this but just wanted to give more details
Paid for the three day offer and with the confirmation of the subscription, got two mails from hornycontacts.com and loveaholics.com asking me to confirm my email. Didn’t pay attention and deleted them.
I immediately canceled the subscription in flirt.com without any issue and on the last day it changed to a standard membership so since it was bs site, cancelled the account as well.
So I was happy and watching a movie when I got an sms from my card provider telling me that I got a 71.78 euros charge from fry frtlsp.com. Never heard of them, so I called my card provider and cancelled my card and will request the return of the money as well.
Then I realized that maybe these two websites also by some miracle signed me up to a paid subscription… so I logged in… had to recover the passwords because they were not the one I used in flirt.com… and surprise, loveaholics.com did signed me up for a paid subscription without me being aware (pretty sure that somewhere during the signing process in flirt there was something checked and didn’t pay attention.). So I had to cancel subscription and account in these two other sites.
So, sorry for the long post but in summary…. do not use flirt.com at all!!!
